By this time tomorrow I will be well on my way to Chicago, from there to catch a transfer flight to Columbus, and then a rental car to Cincinnati.
I'm trying to be calm and confident, and remember all the encouragement people have given and the strong teammates I'll have with me and all the useful information I've researched. But I still seesaw into Scared Shitless Mode a lot. So if anyone has any useful advice for me (i.e. here are some de-stressing breathing techniques) please to be giving it now.
Also, I will effectively be away from email and such for the weekend. I think our hotel has free wireless Internet, but, alas, I do not have a laptop.
Will return late Sunday night. Will probably not be coherent or useful until Monday morning.

The best advice is to focus on what's going to be right and awesome (the encouragement, your teammates, your research etc.), and if you must acknowledge the things you are scared of, find practical ways to diminish or overcome them (I can solve this by doing this; This is not as big of a deal as I think it is).
Doing is usually easier than the anticipation.
Have a great trip!

Doing is definitely easier; it's when I'm not working on the conference stuff itself that I feel most anxious (like, for example, when I'm at work ...). Once it's time for the presentation itself, I'm sure I'll hit the zone and I won't have attention to spare on feeling nervous.
Thank you!

Just try and focus on the fun things -- there will be hectic times, sure, but thinking of the good and fun things you're getting in exchange for the busy and the stress always helps me.
alternatively (like, my airport strategy) is view like a dungeon-crawl. And now you're working on your "standing in line" skill, and now you're working on you "finding edible food in the airport skill" Now you are putting xp into your "talking to strangers" stat! PING! Level up! Next trip you will be EVEN BETTER AT IT.
