Does the name "Siouxzy" have any real connection to the Sioux people?

... Or is this just a case of white people trying to spice up "Susie"/"Suzy" by appropriating the name of the Native nation?

Huh. See [personal profile] mimerki's comment below - maybe today's Siouxsie's are a result of wanting to name your child after the cool rock star, rather than the exotic tribe? I don't know if that makes it better or worse.

I expect that when Siouxsie Sioux first changed her name in the 70s it was shocking social commentary, or seemed so for a young punk living in London. All others are likely made of fail, and I'm willing to believe Siouxsie's choice was too.

Thanks, I didn't even know about Siouxsie Sioux (thus revealing my ignorance of pop culture history). It makes the naming trend less random, if not any better.

Actually, I was unaware of the naming trend and wondering what the aging pop star had done to annoy you until I Googled for her and discovered the trend for myself. Then I was mostly sad.
