Nothing like a Pike Place Market excursion when the weather is acting proper for late April. Plus, I got to spend it with [insanejournal.com profile] shadawyn, [insanejournal.com profile] redbird, and [insanejournal.com profile] nekokoban. Sat down to a nice lunch (all the times I've been to Pike's and I've only eaten at one of the sit-down restaurants twice), and went to Market Spice to indulge my tea obsession (with bonus nascent coffee obsession!) and then Golden Age to indulge my dice obsession.

Lesson learned: never say "I'm going to be good and not buy _____" when [insanejournal.com profile] shadawyn is around. It never works. XD;;

All in all, a lovely afternoon. Though, man, is my credit card going to be sore in the morning. XD

Enablement, ahoy!

Were you less financially responsible overall, I might feel bad, but generally if you say "I'm going to be good and not buy _____" I think you're just stopping yourself out of some misplaced guilt about having and using disposable income ;)

(I could be unfairly projecting my own issues on you, of course.)

Despite what my spending today otherwise implied, I've actually been cracking down because I want to use some of that money to pay off my car. (A-and then I can use that no-longer car payment for more shinies!)

Oh, yeah - if I weren't secure in my finances, I'd like to think I'd be able to say no. I am learning to stop feeling guilty about spending money on fun things; it's just that sometimes I veer wildly between, "I have a comfortable cushion and can spend a hundred bucks on stuff I want," and "OH MY GOD I SPENT A HUNDRED DOLLARS I'M GOING TO GO BROKE."

Yeah, I do the same thing ^^;

I had cash today, so I figured I was okay as long as didn't run out of cash ;)

That's the answer to regulating your spending, I find. Say to yourself, "Self, you are allowed to spend x amount this month (or whatever)." and then get it in cash and refrain from using plastic on things that aren't necessary. I will grant that this has become increasingly harder in Laramie since there IS NOTHING HERE in the way of stores and much of my shopping must be done online.

Yeah, I do most of my spending online. BUT. I'm 90% more likely to impulse shop in a real store than I do online. Usually online I plan the spending and think about the purchase for about 24 hours.

Man, that sucks. I do a lot of online shopping just because I want things that aren't readily available in local stores, but that's voluntary.

I don't give myself a specific limit, but I keep track of what I spend so that I can make sure it stays within a reasonable range. Also, that means I have to pay attention on what I buy with plastic, so it doesn't become "invisible" spending.
