I've already decided that I won't be renewing my paid account at the end of the year, barring some huge improvements in LJ-land (such as, perhaps, entirely new management). I'll stick around with a free account to follow my friends list, but whether I keep posting here will depend on what LJ fixes (or not) in the next few months.

So! In the meantime, I have accounts on both InsaneJournal and GreatestJournal under the same username. At the moment, I'm not posting in either one, just using them to follow people who have already left LJ. If/when I move out of LJ, I'll say so.

For now, I'm asking that anyone who's already made the move please friend me on those journals so I know where you are. I've already friended some people, but I may have missed your announcement or don't know your username.

But two men managed to make use of the ruling a couple of hours before it was stayed. Go them. XD

Let's name some names, so we remember who's a homophobe and who's not:

Polk County Judge Robert Hanson ruled that the state law banning same-sex marriage must be nullified, severed and stricken from the books, and the marriage laws "must be read and applied in a gender neutral manner so as to permit same-sex couples to enter into a civil marriage ..."

On the other hand, County attorney John Sarcone is appealing that ruling, which led Hanson to stay the ruling while the appeal is being resolved. Clearly, he's looking out for the best interests of his constituents - just not any of the gay ones, of course.

Dennis Johnson, the lawyer for the plaintiffs in the case to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act, says that the Act contradicts previous rulings regarding civil rights and is simply "mean spirited."

But of course that can't be right, can it? The DoMA isn't about oppression, just personal opinion - at least, according to Governor Chet Culver, who says that "While some Iowans may disagree on this issue, I personally believe marriage is between a man and a woman." Proving the point that heterosexist marriage laws are just about personal beliefs, Republican House Minority Leader Christopher Rants says that the ruling illustrates the need for a state constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

Oh, and in contrast, here's what one of those heterosexual-oppressing, U.S.-hating abominations has to say:

But I have to share the reason I've been giggling like an idiot at the front desk this afternoon.

linaerys has been linking to Heroes posts from 12_12_12, which has reawakened my love for the show. Not because of anything like plot developments or character evolutions, but because of the true source of my love for Heroes: the characters being huge freaking dorks. XD

ETA: Co-executive producer Michael Green on Christopher Eccleston: "Christopher Eccleston gets all the credit for making Claude the badass he is, probably because he’s a ninja in his own right. We were already hoping to get him around the time his scenes were getting written, so we definitely had his voice in mind. Luckily, his voice can make anything sound cool."
