I've really been enjoying Adagio's Foxtrot tea blend, but my bag of it is nearly gone and it's currently out of stock. (Also, I don't want to make an order and pay shipping just for one type of tea. I could make it a full shopping 'trip' and probably hit the free shipping minimum, but the amount of tea I have both at work and at home is kind of indefensibly ridiculous already.)

I decided to experiment - Adagio lists the ingredients of Foxtrot as chamomile, peppermint, rooibos, and vanilla rooibos. I currently have loose-leaf chamomile, peppermint, and almond rooibos, so I mixed all three together, eyeballed it until it looked Foxtrot-ish, and gave it a whirl.

It turned out pretty good, all things considered. I think I put in too much peppermint, and I lacked plain rooibos, which I think gives Foxtrot some body, but the almond is a decent substitute for the vanilla (at least to me, as someone who does not go for very sweet tea). I consider it a success.

(I ... feel like my recent entries have rotated among game fics, link-dropping, and sheer inanity. Which is a fair use for an online journal, I guess, but I swear I used to have more relevant things to talk about.)

I've done the random mixing before. Usually turns out well enough! Rooibos blends well with a lot of things.

(I keep saying I'm going to post more, and then I just don't feel like I have anything so say that anyone would care about. Bah.)

I haven't had good luck with mixing my teas. I wasn't using rooibos, though - my last attempt was to enhance the fruit flavor of one of my fruity green teas by adding a dried fruit tisane ... It didn't work at all. :P Do you mix rooibos with green and white teas (because that's the bulk of my collection)?

I certainly like hearing from you, even/especially the small updates that aren't hugely noteworthy. Since we don't see each other frequently, I tend to miss out on that stuff, because it doesn't warrant an email or phone call to announce. (As I say this, I realize I could do it myself, too.)

I've had a lot of luck with mixing mates with various rooibos or oolong and non-fruit tisanes with white tea (currently I'm mixing a chamomile/lavender tisane with a white tea). My experience with fruity teas is that the tisanes are too strong to mix with the white/greens, so if you do, do so very sparingly. I think, as unappealing it sounds, the better fruity teas seem to be the ones that have flavoring rather than rely on fruit chunks.

One of my favorite Teavana blends has white tea and rooibos on it, so it's not impossible for them to blend. I've not tried it with green tea that I can think of, though. I've had some green and white blends, though.

(Actually, looking at the To Life, I'm wondering if my peach rooibos would blend well with the lavender/chamomile/white tea I've been doing... experiment!)

I'll try to make posts more often, even if they aren't SHOCKING NEWS. I mean... I guess that's how most people use their journal (and I used to, too!). I'm not sure why I've suddenly gotten so self-conscious about it myself.

I am glad I am not alone in wanting to read/write about tea!
