I want to blather on about various things, including my horrendous chain of fuck-ups in the kitchen over the last two days, and my reactions to reading the (Cass) Batgirl series, but I don't really feel like I'd have much of a point. Not that you need a point to post on your own journal, I guess.
I am interested in doing this meme, though. I can do numbered lists even if I don't have a point.
Ask me my Top Five Whatevers. Fannish or literary or otherwise. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! Fandoms, ice cream flavours, cartoon moments, women in my fandoms, OTPs, ideal holiday destinations, goals for the future, celebrity crushes, books I wish would be made into movies, love songs. And I will answer them all in a new post (or in comments). Possibly with pictures.
Or ... I guess I could use one for the other.
My top 5 kitchen fuck-ups in the last two days:
1. Forgetting to put the zucchini in my zucchini bread. As in, not even getting it out of the fridge, let alone shredding it and mixing it into the batter.
2. After removing the zucchini-less zucchini bread from the oven (thankfully, only a few minutes into the cooking time), adding in the zucchini and putting the pan back in to bake, forgetting to turn the oven back on ... for about 40 minutes.
3. Having pots on two burners at once while I was attempting to make risotto, and turning the wrong burners on so that neither pot was heating at the correct time (empty burner heating instead of the broth getting to a boil; the pot of dry rice heating when I wanted to pause the heating process while the broth cooked).
4. Realizing, after the fact, that I had used the 1/3 measuring cup instead of the 1/4 cup.
5. Doubling the ingredients when I wanted to make a double batch recipe, but not getting a pot that was double the size.
My top 5 things that I like about Cass Cain/Batgirl:
1. She smiles. A lot. Cass could easily fall into the physically kickass/emotionally naive girl fetish (and she does, at times, depending on the writer), but the fact that she smiles so much instead of being wide-eyed and silent all the time makes it so much better. Her smiles aren't simpering for others' approval or giggling in shyness. She smiles for herself, as a person with agency.
2. Damion Scott's art. It took awhile to get used to, because it's not the style I grew up seeing in comic books (my formative years included Jim Lee and Andy Kubert, and later, Joe Madureira), but it's so dynamic. I get the physical impression of spiralling from it, in a way I can't really explain (note my lack of knowledge or training about art).
3. Her conversations with Onyx. Like when Onyx urges her to have an identity - and life - separate from Batgirl, and it's not about Bruce or David Cain or any other (white) man. Why, why, why couldn't we get more of them? This is the kind of Bechdel-Test-passing female interaction that I love in the Birds of Prey comic, but without the insular whiteness that keeps me at arms' length. Also, I have not seen enough of Onyx to satisfy me.
4. Her friendship with Steph. I finally see why the pairing is so popular (romantic or platonic). Steph's interaction with Cass also makes me see why Steph is such a likeable character.
5. The Batboys didn't really show up (Bruce interacted with Cass the most, and even then he disappeared for several issues at a time), and they didn't need to. I love Dick (hurr hurr), and Tim, in many ways, acts as the fulcrum for my love of the Batfamily, but they were barely there and I didn't miss them at all.

Except I love this prompt. XD XD XD
1. Erazema (duh). Because she pushes all my character buttons. Specifically, she is a very intense, dedicated, and competent person, who at the same time has no idea what the fuck she's doing. She's idealistic; and while she isn't self-hating or suicidal, she thinks that self-preservation is just one factor, equal to others, to consider as she pursues her mission.
2. Sarade. She has such a forceful presence, but it appears to come from the strength of her personality and not at all on her need to impress or intimidate others. She doesn't draw attention to herself - not to scare people with her appearance, try to mollify people with friendliness, or prove anything for other people.
3. THUT! Because, well, Thut. Really, the whole Mayoral Triumvirate, and also Thut and Dorgo's epic bromance.
4. Murander. He's so competent it's sexy. Also, he has such a solid presence in the campaign I don't think of him primarily as a FTGC character anymore. And I love the fact that a Neutral character is spearheading the "good" side of the fight, and the questions that raises about the good side and the fight itself.
5. Dasheir. He's fascinating for many of the same reasons Erazema is; he just was able to reach a point in his life that Erazema hasn't (yet).
Man, that was hard. I didn't include any of the sidekicks or periphery (Presea, Blade Guides, Kershach) just to cut my options down to the "true" NPCs. Also I think that helped keep me from picking my favorite characters based on what they mean to Nexus.
I also want to special mention Danae, because I don't have an attachment to the character that merits putting her on the list, but she's hilarious. Also Tamurth and Huugan, for the same reason. And the Shard-Walker (Krk-Tik-Sae), because she's a dervish named after my Warmakers character. I'm sure I'm forgetting more.

1. Garagos. He's more insightful and manipulative than we guessed initially. And on a meta level, he instigates interesting things for our campaign and my character specifically.
2. Emperor Sothiliss. I almost don't want to put him on a list of "villains," since he's really just our enemy. If we're lucky, we won't have to fight him directly, both because of his scary-ass fear aura, and because he really shouldn't die.
3. Lucas Seaborn. For being wonderfully constructed as an Evil leader of a major nation with few people realizing it. The flipside of Sothiliss, he's the villain-who-isn't-our-enemy (yet).
4. Tamurth. I can't help but feel some affection for him, because he has no dignity in our eyes.
5. Kadira. For being so utterly thorough in her creepiness.

These are, of course, my current picks, and may change in 6 months ...
1. Vienna Teng, Inland Territory. It's a tough call to say which specific album of hers is my favorite, because there are tracks on others that I really love, but I think I like IT best because of the variety of styles.
2. Adam Lambert, For Your Entertainment. Satisfies my need for glamtastic pop, with a touch of 80s bombast.
3. Kamelot, The Black Halo. This was also tough to pick, because I like Epica and some tracks from Ghost Opera a lot, but I went with this one because of the Simone Simons presence.
4. Missy Higgins, The Sound of White. I listen to a lot of the female singer-songwriter genre, and it can, like any genre, get repetitive; but her voice stands out and her lyrics aren't (usually) trite.
5. I'm going to cheat a bit and list my Nexus FST. I at least like all the songs I put on it, even if they're not my usual listening material, and of course it has geeky meaning for me. 8D

3. Easily amused cat! (gif)
4. Incompetent orange kitten! (video)
5. I have not met this cat because he's at the Lynnwood PAWS, not mine, but I love his first picture. AND he's one of a bonded pair, so, yeah, lotsa cute.
And I didn't include this because it's not an animal, but I have to give some love to Angry Noodle. XD
