Park51, a proposed community center that would be built near the former World Trade Center and include a mosque, got the go-ahead today. This is YAY.

However, the amount of opposition this project has faced is pure racist bullshit.

... and in whining-about-my-personal-irritations issues, I tried a new recipe tonight and followed the directions about how much salt to add, even though my gut reaction was to reduce it. I should've listened to my instincts. *grumble*

Boo about the salt (although lately I've been strangely addicted to salt, so maybe I would like your recipe extra much?)! And also for the racist bullshit, because that's all it is. Well, and also religious...ist(?) BS, because if they wanted to build a Xtian church there nobody would care.

BUT!

Yay that New York gave all those bad people the finger and chose to do the right thing. It's also the higher road to take thing. It shows that NYC is above being petty and closed-minded, unlike a large % of our fellow Americans. It really is a positive achievement and I hope the Muslim world sees it as a gesture of friendship coming from our unfortunately anti-Islamic nation. :)

Good point; religious bigotry is often intertwined with but is still separate from racism.

And yeah, I'm going to try to focus on the awesome that is the community center's victory rather than the rest of it ...

It's nice to have a federal decision to celebrate for once. :)

It's just too bad how uncommon these little victories are. :(
