The Burke Museum's In Search of Giant Squid exhibit opens next Saturday, September 22. I don't really know what's going to be in the exhibit - but come on, giant squid!


The autumn Friends of the Seattle Public Library book sale is coming up on Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30. For anyone who doesn't know about it, it's a biannual event wherein an airplane hangar full of cheap books (as well as CDs, DVDs, and videos) is opened up to the ravenous public. And by cheap, I mean $1 for a hardcover. Saturday is a better selection, but Sunday everything is half-price.

The good thing about this sale is that, even though it's hard to find specific books (there's not much in the way of organization besides divisions of genre), I've been going every year for several years and I still come away with bags full of books every time. The bad thing about the sale is, uh ... I come away with bags full of books every time. ^^; You may need to set limits for yourself if you go ...


Smithsonian Magazine's Museum Day is on Saturday, September 29 as well. Participating museums will be offering free admission all day (with an admission card that you can print out at the site).

This is actually a nationwide event, so everyone can get in on the hawt hawt museum action. 8D


zinjadu informs me that Fire Station 17 in the University District is having an Open House on Saturday, September 29 from 11:00-1:00 p.m. "Meet your neighborhood firefighters," wink nudge. XD


Also, the Puget Sound Blood Center is having blood drives all the time, and you can search for places and times to donate here. I figure it's a good thing to do, if you don't have physical prohibitions. I, uh, keep getting rejected because my blood doesn't have enough iron, but I'm hoping to be able to donate again soon. ^^;
