I ended a 1.5+ year campaign on Sunday. It's the second time I've done that, but it doesn't feel any easier.
Well, it was a little easier because my character didn't die this time. The characters in Warmakers are all dumb teenagers - we don't save the world and die in a blaze of glory, we save the world and then celebrate with an ice cream party in Hell. 8D
Of which I am the ninja catgirl Queen, by the way. XD XD XD
Yanagisawa Sae started out as a very nebulous idea in my head, even for the first couple of adventures. I knew she was going to be
shadawyn's character's twin sister, but not much beyond that. As I recall, she was originally going to be a Druid.
I ended creating a self-indulgent character in many ways. Sae became a Dervish, because that is my favoritest prestige class ever and I had always been thwarted when trying to play one. She also turned out to be an exaggerated teenaged version of me, wherein I got to make fun of my own personal neuroses but also got to make the character mature in a satisfying narrative trajectory.
Along the way, of course, Sae became something entirely different from me, and what I originally wanted. Based on stimuli provided by other players, the GM, and also the way I leveled her, she developed into all sorts of things - a cranky, protective older sister; an accidentally sexy catgirl; a leader of troops in a holy war; in love with a freakish Norwegian; bound to (and ultimately a wielder of) her physicality; a decidedly non-righteous hero-by-default - and that was all kinds of fun.
This was my first time playing a game run by
irishninja. It was my second time playing in a game with
coramegan and
shadawyn (the first time being a campaign based on Fullmetal Alchemist, back in my sophomore year of college), and my who-knows-how-many-th game with my dear
ratzeo. I got to meet
amheriksha,
mimerki,
jfrog78 (with whom I involuntarily developed a telepathic connection :P), and
jack_grimm. I had a fabulous time playing with you all.
I am, of course, nowhere near finished with Warmakers. I will be plotting Sae's future plans (as Queen of Hell, sister of a half-celestial, and girlfriend of the future Battle Pope) and writing fic for at least a little while yet. And if and when
irishninja is ready to run another Warmakers campaign, I will be waiting, dice in hand.

I like how you follow along the character from beginning to end. Reika, too, started very nebulous, and changed drastically in many ways I hadn't planned on. I should write a post about that sometime, maybe. Or at least something for myself ;)
I'm still too emotionally bound up by this campaign, but I definitely look forward to playing with all of you in the Warmakers universe again--whether new characters or a return of the Guardians. I gave Mike a plotbunny for another (albeit) shorter Guardian campaign, so we'll see what happens. But he also says that campaigns will happen in the universe's chronological order, so it may be several years Warmakers time, and some short OAVs and maybe a 13 parter real time before we see the Guardians again.
I wonder how many of the players we'll be able to round up again when that happens. *clings*
I've enjoyed being able to pretend to be your sister for the last year and a half. ♥

We'll just have to move down to Portland for games and play in
I had fun being the Yanagisawa sisters together. ♥ And now we can do the creepy twin thing in Hell! 8D

Thank you.
