Yes, it's helped a bit with editing. I don't like it anymore than I ever have before, but focusing on a smaller target (1000 words instead of 100,000 words) has gotten me to write/edit tighter (sentence structure), limit meandering (actual story/content), and play with other things, like symbolism, imagery, foreshadowing, etc..

It's also helped me distinctly with exploring internal conflict on an equal or even higher level than the external conflict.

I think it's also made it so that I can do at least light scene-by-scene editing on the first draft of my next novel, instead of pushing through the first draft despite obvious, glaring, humongous problems in fear I'll never get to the end if I don't. (However, I also feel comfortable trying this idea, because I know I can finish a first draft.)
