This week's set of goals is, like, 90% about Warmakers.

Oh, I hear you ;)

I actually worry about what will happen to my productivity once the campaign ends, and I am no longer fueled by the energy of a 13 year-old fangirl. :P

I figure I might be able to start writing novels again--you know after I get a metric ass-ton of post campaign fic written ;) Hey, at least I'm still in the habit of thinking about story and writing every day...

Hey, at least I'm still in the habit of thinking about story and writing every day...

True, I can't underestimate the benefit of that practice. Even if I don't try as hard to push myself with every fic I write, I do end up stretching my writing muscles with each attempt.

Do you find that writing gamefic helps you with your editing at all?

[identity profile] shadawyn.insanejournal.com 2008-03-04 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it's helped a bit with editing. I don't like it anymore than I ever have before, but focusing on a smaller target (1000 words instead of 100,000 words) has gotten me to write/edit tighter (sentence structure), limit meandering (actual story/content), and play with other things, like symbolism, imagery, foreshadowing, etc..

It's also helped me distinctly with exploring internal conflict on an equal or even higher level than the external conflict.

I think it's also made it so that I can do at least light scene-by-scene editing on the first draft of my next novel, instead of pushing through the first draft despite obvious, glaring, humongous problems in fear I'll never get to the end if I don't. (However, I also feel comfortable trying this idea, because I know I can finish a first draft.)

Your mileage may vary :D

Or Thursday and Friday...

Yeah, this week has been ... not as good as last week. And that was probably obvious with the (lack of) creative progress I was making in the days I did update. Once the RP (i.e. outside stimulus) was over, I didn't get very far by myself.

I was pretty up and down this week, slipping back into the lack of motivation/confidence pit. I did have good spates of boosted energy (like when I attended a lecture last night that got my brain working), but it's been hard to make them stay. Although I guess it's a good sign that the low moods have been temporary, even if I haven't shaken them off totally.

I was sort of planning to write all this in a journal entry (or just write it down) to help myself sort it out, but, uh ... lucky you, you got to hear it instead. :P

On the bright side, I did stay up until 3:00 drawing last night. :Db So I'm going to try to hold on to that energy.

I understand, I had similar, but in reverse--the week started off lousy for me, and then slowly improved.

(Although I think impending deadline helped! ;))

I don't mind listening to your frustrations. That's what friends are for! :)
