Christ on a cracker, how far can you stick your head up your own ass?

(I am, of course, referring to the comments and not to the original post itself. Ampersand is the original author of the Male Privilege Checklist, and he does an excellent job of either defending it or modifying it to be more accurate, depending on what the situation calls for.)

Various people are decrying the assertion that women do an unequal share of housework - and that this might actually be unfair. Right at the beginning, in comment #2, we have the classic, classic responsibility-shirking excuse: "Most women are simply cleaner than men, and want things to be cleaner than men do."

Good god! I thought these cliched anti-feminist arguments only existed in myth! It's kind of like sighting Bigfoot, isn't it?

But golly gee, why did I never see it? Of course women are genetically programmed to be cleaner! Certainly it has nothing to do with the fact that we're told from day one that we're supposed to be the ones in charge of household duties, that we're criticized for being "untidy" more harshly than men are, that we're seen as being remiss in our womanly/wifely/motherly duties if our houses aren't spotless (regardless of what the man/husband/father does or doesn't do), that we're under pressure from our male partners to do the work, and even have our failures in housekeeping used as justification for domestic abuse. Nope, clearly it must all be natural that we do this shit.

Read on to see other commenters giving this guy a good trouncing. My favorite bits from the responses are: "Why yes, Virginia, there -is- a toilet cleaning gene," and, "The vagina does not endow women with super powers of housekeeping."

Something else that sticks out to me when reading this post (as well as the other recent posts about criticisms of the Checklist): the fact that Amp has the ability to admit he's wrong. No, he doesn't completely abandon his original position, but he'll admit if some of what he's said is incorrect. Shock! I didn't know this was even possible! I only wish more anti-feminists did the same thing. But I guess feminists are just more likely to have the ability to acknowledge reality ... Must be in our genes, huh?
