Wicked videos

Why no I'm not riding a Wicked high just because I saw the live show two nights ago why do you ask? XD XD XD

I really wanted to share with everyone the awesomeness of the cast I saw on Sunday, and it occurred to me to check YouTube - which, incidentally, is brimming with clips from Wicked performances. (And I know it's against the rules to bring recording equipment into a live show, so I know that's bad ... but then again, it's not like these could in any way replace a live viewing. And besides, I've already shelled out cash for the show. >D)

So here we go:

-Shoshana Bean, the actress who played our Elphaba, performs "The Wizard and I." This is the first time Elphaba sings, and seeing her perform like this put to rest any doubts I had about her ability to fill the role.
-Megan Hilty, our Glinda, performs "What is This Feeling?" with Saycon Sengbloh (Elphaba). I especially like Megan's reading of the letter. XD Saycon, obviously, wasn't our Elphaba, which was probably a good thing - she's definitely talented, and I got used to the sound of her voice after a while, but she's a different kind of Elphaba than Idina Menzel or Shoshana. If I'd seen her live on Sunday I probably would have judged her horribly. ^^;
-Megan Hilty and Saycon Sengbloh perform "Popular." I still can't really get behind Saycon as Elphaba ... but just watch it for Glinda's non-singing parts. This is why I loved her so much. XD
-Sebastian Arcelus, the actor who played our Fiyero, performs "As Long As You're Mine" with Julia Murney as Elphaba. Again, I don't really like this Elphaba. :/ But Sebastian was great.
-Here's Shoshana Bean and Megan Hilty doing the scene that precedes "No Good Deed," which involves the hilarious "duel." Also notable is Fiyero swinging in on a rope (in the middle of a cornfield O_o) to save the day.
-Shoshana Bean and Megan Hilty (they were so great together) perform "Defying Gravity." This was the last night of Shoshana's Broadway run as Elphaba, so you can feel the extra excitement from both her and the audience. I was really impressed by their performance live, and this might be even better.

-Idina Menzel (Elphaba) and Kristin Chenoweth (Glinda) perform "Popular" on Today.
-Here's the same pre-"No Good Deed" scene with the originals: Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, and Norbert Leo Butz as an adorable Fiyero. XD
-Here's a clip from a documentary showing a performance of "For Good" by Idina and Kristin. Beautiful.
-Idina and Kristin's "Defying Gravity" is, of course, essential viewing.

-Ana Gasteyer, who played Elphaba in the Chicago cast and will take over the role on Broadway in a couple of weeks, performs "Defying Gravity." You might remember her as a regular on Saturday Night Live, so this is kind of odd to watch. Even more odd is the fact that she actually sounds fantastic - she has Idina's kind of power when she belts out the final lines.
-Taye Diggs, a.k.a. Idina Menzel's husband, a.k.a. Benny in Rent (they got together while doing the show) took over as Fiyero for a short while when Norbert Leo Butz was out due to injury. Here's Idina performing "I'm Not That Girl," followed by the train station scene, which has some amusing dialogue.
-And then, of course, Taye and Idina performing "As Long As You're Mine." This version is in a different key, so it sounds kind of funny. :/ But it's worth it to watch just to see the two of them together. Watch their hands, or the way he touches her - it's really adorable.
