New Year's meme
Karaoke last night was fun. Today is my last day of work before I go home. Things are looking good.
And now, a meme, ganked from
arielladrake:
1. Will you be looking for a new job?
Yup, since I'll be graduating in the spring, I won't be able to stay at my campus job. I'm planning to start job-hunting in a couple of months, so hopefully I'll have something lined up soon after graduation.
2. Will you be looking for a new relationship?
Well, with Jedi game ending in Winter Quarter, I'll be concentrating on the other games I'm in, and maybe even starting new ones.
zinjadu and
ratzeo have both mentioned running new games, with people I haven't role-played with before -
- but you probably don't mean that kind of relationship. XD;; The answer to that question is: nah, I've got 100% Canadian satisfaction. 8D
3. New house?
Doubtful. I won't be in my current living situation forever, but I don't think I'll move out within a year.
4. What will you do different in '07?
Oof. That's kind of a doozy of a question. "Be better" is the short answer. What that means for me (right now) is, among other things: Learn to trust and have confidence in myself. Become better at communication. Acquire the skills for standing up against injustice, whether against myself or others, even if it's scary or causes me hurt. At the same time, learn to take time for myself, to avoid burnout.
(And it's "differently," dammit.)
5. New Years resolution?
*points up* That stuff. And any other areas of improvement I run into.
6. What will you not be doing in '07?
Be afraid. (At least, I'll try not to.)
7. Any trips planned?
Maybe. Not sure yet.
8. Wedding plans?
Nope. I don't think there are any for anyone close to me, either. *eyeballs people around me*
9. What's on your calendar?
Finishing Jedi game next quarter. Graduation in June. Full-time work soon after (hopefully). Um ... I can't think beyond that date, at this point.
10. What can't you wait for?
Finishing Jedi game! XD Also, I'm see-sawing between really wanting to graduate, and really wanting to stay in school. I feel more excitement than dread, though.
11. What would you like to see happen differently?
Ooh, ooh! How about oppression ending? Can I have that, Santa?
12. What about yourself will you be changing?
*squint* How is this not like #4? If we mean physically, then I don't plan on doing anything drastic. I still would like to get a tattoo someday, but the decision process would take at least a year.
13. What happened in '06 that you didn't think would ever happen?
The November elections. XD Also, for myself, I've been learning to stand up for myself in many, many different ways that I hadn't been able to before. It's not that I didn't think that would ever happen, but I had no way to be certain. It hasn't always turned out perfectly, and it has caused conflict - which is what I was always afraid would happen - but I'm still proud of myself for doing what I've done.
14. Will you be nicer to the people you care about?
My efforts have been a continual process. There's no guarantee I'm succeeding, but I hope 2007 will bring more improvement than not.
15. Will you dress differently this year than you did in '06?
If I get a new job, then yeah, I'll have to start dressing like a grown-up. Unless I end up in a place that's cool like
nekokoban and
shadawyn's workplace.
16. Will you start or quit drinking?
No? I don't do that much of it anyhow.
17. Will you better your relationship with your family?
Hopefully. I think the past couple of years have been the transition to adult parent-child relations, and I hope to get that smoothed out.
18. Will you do charity work?
I would really like to. Once I graduate and can't do C.O.R.E. work anymore, I hope to find something that's low-key enough for a budding activist like me.
19. Will you go to bars?
Don't really do bars. If I drink, it's usually at a friend's house.
20. Will you be nice to people you don't know?
I am anyway. Politeness to strangers is bred into my bones.
21. Do you expect '07 to be a good year for you?
Yeah, I really think it will be. Graduation-and-beyond is kind of a daunting prospect, but like I said earlier, the excitement outshadows the fear. More generally, I feel like these past couple of years have brought me a lot of growth and discovery, in many different areas. I see myself learning, confronting challenges, and embarking on new territory ... In short, I look forward to my future.
22. How much did you change from this time last year til now?
Well, this year was when I took on the Women Studies major, and developed my feminism/anti-oppression more generally. I got smarter and more cynical. I also did a lot of emotional maturing, particularly in my relationship with
ratzeo. All of these things are just beginning, of course - they'll keep going next year and beyond.
23. Do you plan on having a child?
No. O_o
24. Will you still be friends with the same people you are friends with now?
I find that the folk wisdom that says that women make their lifelong friends in college is true for me. I only keep in touch with a very small number of my friends from high school and earlier, but I could really see myself staying friends with the people around me for ... well, for a long time. Of course, things might change as people graduate and strike out for other parts; but I don't feel like that will be a death sentence for many of my friendships.
25. Major lifestyle changes?
Becoming a grown-up? I hope to do that in a good way, too - not just getting a full-time job and paying bills, but being more mature and conscious about my place in the world.
26. Will you be moving?
Not planning to.
27. What will you make sure doesn't happen in '07 that happened in '06?
Backwards progress. I'm still growing, so I fully expect to continue to stumble and make mistakes; but I want to make sure I don't forget what I've learned so far.
28. What are your New Years Eve plans?
Par-tay! ... well, as much as I ever party, anyway.
29. Will you have someone to kiss at midnight?
Yes! This is the first year that
ratzeo and I will be in the same place on New Year's eve. *happywiggle*
30. One wish for '07?
See #11. Maybe if I wish for it twice it'll really happen ...
