ARGH, yes. one of the most unpleasant things about my ex -- right up near the top of the list -- was his tendency to default, when extremely upset, to racial and sexual slurs as the most aggressive curses he could think of. And then somehow claim that it just meant "he was upset" and not "he was actually a bigoted creep."

Gotta love that. It's as if they believe you get a free pass for your behavior whenever you're "upset." When really, when people are upset and their defenses are down, they're saying what they really think, rather than what they think is acceptable or polite.
